We started the week with a ton of fun – our Halloween parade and party. Many thanks to all of the parents who sent in treats and a BIG THANK YOU to E.J.’s mom and uncle for leading our party games: Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin and BINGO. More pictures are posted on our Photos :-) page.
Each student grabbed a clipboard and a Plant Parts We Eat assessment sheet and then moved along the STEAM lab tables to examine and classify the plant parts that we eat. They examined apples, asparagus, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, popcorn, cucumber, kale, peppers, spinach, sunflower seeds, and tomatoes. When the children finished the assessment, they made their own plates of plant parts and enjoyed a late afternoon snack. With a little ranch dressing on the side, many of the vegetables were tried and enjoyed, but popcorn was definitely the biggest hit (the part of the corn we eat is the seed). Yesterday, we kicked-off the week with our first field trip. The Modlin Center for the Arts treated us to premium seats (the first two rows) for the performance which amazingly allowed all of us to experience the show to the fullest. The Puppet State Theatre performance was multi-sensory, allowing us to hear the wind, feel the rain, smell the lavender and mint, and had us laughing with Dog. Based on Jean Giono’s environmental classic novel, this play told the story of a French shepherd who set out with his dog to plant a forest, acorn by acorn, transforming a barren wasteland into beautiful woodland. A big THANK YOU goes out to the Modlin Center for our scholarship and to Mr. Williams who graciously served as our chaperone for this fabulous field trip. |
